Stitching it together

So this is the tricky bit. Where it all comes together and makes what has been planned all along. For the cutout of sam I used the quick select tool, as he was on a white background this was much more simple and easy and cut out. I had to fiddle around a fair bit for the placement of sam in the background, as to where I was going put him in regards to size and placement near the cliffs. I just duplicated him a couple of times for the reflection and the shadow adding motion blur for both so they blended better onto the water and looked like they were actually there.

The cup sat nicely on the cliff, I over sized it just for a more surreal look that fits the picture concept  of giants and fantastical. With the final image I don’t think the cup has sat as well in the photo but there isn’t much I can do it as I have tried a bunch of variations with the photo. But overall I am very happy with the outcome of the photo so it is good for me.

I’d say if there was one thing that I would do again or change for next time would be time, I left things a bit late and it was more of a rush than I would have liked. That being said, there isnt much I think I could have done to produce a better photo in the end and I really am happy with the end result.

Drone Shots

Here are the drone shots I got from the day with the drone. I took one day to get to grips with the drone and how it works, it was a lot easier than I had expected. It had a very easy user interface an flying it was a piece of cake, it did almost all of the work for me. This gave me confidence when I was shooting for the actual background.

For the day I went to Devils Dyke where there were some good hills that were rolling and I could imagine a giant walking and striding over. The day was a little bit hazy which was not ideal but added to the photos somewhat and making them more atmospheric. After this I went to farmer house where I had done the recon before I had the drone. It wasn’t as successful as I had hoped as the hills where a bit small and I couldn’t really get the hight that I was looking for, that being said they came out well and are potential usable.  Then lastly I went to Birling Gap which was a coastal area with big white cliffs. This was the most dramatic area in my opinion. I took photos from different angles and heights to give myself as much freedom as possible to take the different shots that would work with sam when it comes to putting it all together.

Location recon

So this weekend I visited the Sussex downs as a bit of location scouting for the drone shot that I am planning. I chose to do the downs as they are riolling hills with fields that would suit the image. Another place that I may go to with the drone is beachy head area but that may be done on the day. Here are the examples of what I got.

Laying it out

So the composition of the three photos will contain the model who will be the giant (Sam) the backdrop, shot from the drone, and the coffee cup.  The layout is something to be confirmed as it will somewhat go with what the photos allow me to. The giant wont be holding the cup, will be picking it up off the ground or what ever the landscape will allow me to put in.

Lavazza inspiration

So far I have had some inspiration for the giants idea are gullivers travels, the story of a guy who gets trapped on an island after his boat crashes an is a giant among a place full of small people. The scale of the gulliver is a threat to people initially and as time goes on he gains their trust and becomes favourable to the people untill he he puts out a fire with his pee, where he is imprisoned and sentenced to blinding.

The reason for this as an idea as I could present the story as a giant who comes across a land and has to make do with the landscape to live in. Although this is a bit out there and doesnt really make that much sense. It was more the giant and how he is presented among the people of Liliput is interesting to me.

Lavazza Photo comp

So my initial idea for this project is a giant themed photo shot from a drone, comping someone into the landscape to make them look huge. The idea behind this is that the coffee in the morning wakes us up and makes us feel bigger and stronger, we feel like a giant. The idea for this came from a Coldplay video for the song “Up and Up” where they superimpose the members of the band into landscapes and make them look like they are giants. I saw this and it sparked ideas straight away.

When looking for ideas and inspiration this method of photoshop hadnt really been done yet that much and I thought it would be a fun one to do. Here are some of the other ways that I could have done it but they looked pretty amateur and overly done in my opinion. The first one is more of a joke but it gets the idea across.
